About Me

I am a social anthropologist with interests ranging from food, gender, employment, family, intimacy, risk, emotion, health and well-being. My current research cross-culturally explores social experiences of food allergies in Japan and the UK. I joined Hokkaido University in April 2013 where I teach on and co-coordinate the BA in Modern Japanese Studies. This website provides up-to-date information on my research projects, publications and teaching.

If you are interested in getting real-time updates and uploads of publications, please also check out and follow my academia.edu page at: https://hokudai.academia.edu/EmmaCook
